Suzette Martinez Standring: Honoring those who serve

Veterans Day is a reminder that a soldier’s terror, courage and faith make freedom possible. Candy Kyler Brown retraced her father’s World War II footsteps when Staff Sergeant John Roland Kyler, at age 20, parachuted from the skies after his B-17 was gunned down, and was taken prisoner by the German army. The author shares her journey from her father’s perspective, “What I Never Told You: A Daughter Traces The Wartime Imprisonment of her Father” (AuthorHouse, 2010, $17.99).

In 2004 Sgt. Kyler died at age 81, his World War II stories untold. Afterward, his daughter discovered a notebook of poems and sketches kept by her dad during his captivity from 1944 to 1945. Kyler-Brown yearned to know what her father went through as a ball turret gunner as part of the B-17 Flying Fortress, and later as POW #1277 in Nazi Germany. Over time she pieced together the 15-month period that her father never shared. “I thought if I could go to the places from his wartime past to walk where he walked, and to feel how closely he might have felt, then somehow it could become our story, and I would be more deserving to write it,” said Kyler-Brown, age 62, who is married with children and who lives in Kill Buck, New York.

Author Shares Inspiring New Memoir in AuthorHouse

Author Shares Inspiring New Memoir Showcasing God’s Guidance
Dorothy Harvey pens new autobiography, ‘God Did It.’

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (PRWEB) November 06, 2012

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once wrote “Into each life some rain must fall.” Dorothy Harvey knows this better than anyone. The rainy days and the sun that followed is what inspired her to write her new memoir, “God Did It” (published by AuthorHouse).

As Harvey looks back over the many challenges she has encountered, the accountant in her moves her to make an assessment of the reality and come to the conclusion that she couldn’t have made it without the grace of God. “There is simply no other earthly explanation,” she says.

Her story starts with her childhood growing up in Virginia and travels to the streets of Washington D.C. It is there that she feels she formed her strong work ethic and defined her values. The watchful eye of a loving mother and father gave her the confidence to tackle life head on, recognizing the importance of family and the role it plays in building one’s foundation and character.
Inside the pages of “God Did It,” readers will journey with a young mother who blossoms into a capable woman. It offers a glimpse of how with the divine guidance of God almighty he will help others to blossom instead of feeling like they are going to perish. For she believes, that with God’s guidance others can do it, too.
Some will find parallels in their personal journeys and realize that there is hope on the other side of every struggle. The book enlightens and uplifts as it reinforces that as the readers are writing their own stories, they are not alone. Authorhouse prweb news

AuthorHouse Fiction: New Book Challenges

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (PRWEB) October 31, 2012

In Theodor Richardson’s debut science fiction novel “Chronos Unbound” (published by AuthorHouse), one man must race to find the one chance of stopping a devastating war.

A world war looms upon civilization. This was spans 20 years to the time of an unjust dictator who controls most of the world. His son uses an unreliable technology of his own design to come back 20 years to our time and weave the tale of what is to come as a warning to the one person who can stop the coming crisis and the resulting war. The story spans both present time and theirs, as the conflict escalates in both timelines.

An excerpt from
Chronos Unbound
My father is a very important man in the future history and I seek to change that. He controls over half of the world in my time. At first, I was pleased with the prospect of inheriting such a powerful position. Then, I suppose in a manner of speaking it can be said that my father's spirit possessed me. I suddenly sought to conquer the conqueror. I have my own reasons for that, as you will know in time. I was not in the position, being his son, to lead a revolution as you may imagine, so instead I appealed to both his vanity and his loathing of me. I chose to battle him in something much more personal but no less decisive.

Richardson is careful to point out that, despite the presence within
Chronos Unbound
of traditional science fiction elements, it offers something different.
The setting is just a facilitator for the character story which requires extreme circumstances to see what people would do with the choices they are given.

About the Author
Theodor Richardson is an author and professor of computer science and information technology. He has written several textbooks on computing and security and writes regular reviews of scientific texts in Choice magazine. A lifelong student of literary works and theater, this is his first full-length novel, integrating science and the spectacular. When he is not adventuring around the world with his fiancée, Katherine, he resides in New Jersey, with his canine companions, Chewbacca and Monkey.

AuthorHouse Author : Paranormal photographer shares photos

Photographer AuthorHouse Julie Griffin holding her new book.

In a timely pre-Halloween program, freelance paranormal photographer Julie Griffin brought some thought-provoking photographs to the Cragin Memorial Library on Oct. 17 as she entertained about 80 visitors with stories and photos from her book, "Ghostly Photographs: Ghost stories you can see with your own eyes," recently published by AuthorHouse.

At the end of 2008, Griffin decided she wanted to learn about paranormal investigations, so she joined a group and started working with them. It wasn’t long after that she began capturing “anomalies” with her camera that she couldn’t explain, Griffin said.

She uses a regular camera, a Nikon T80, which she considers a better point-and-shoot camera. “I’m not great with technology, so this worked well for me,” Griffin said about the camera.

In the three and a half years since she became a paranormal photographer, she has taken almost 50,000 pictures. She considers the volume of photos she has taken to be part of her success. “I always take three photos of the exact same spot because energy can move and change as it manifests,” Griffin said. “It can be in one photo, but not in another. Sometimes you are lucky enough to catch it in multiple positions as it changes.” Read more.

AuthorHouse Review by Bruce Kimmel, AuthorHouse's Most Published Author

http://www.authorhouse.com/AuthorHouse Publishing's Most Published Author Bruce Kimmel shares his thoughts and experiences behind his 12 books. In this AuthorHouse review, he reveals why he makes publishing a book an annual event and stuck by the same production team since his first book. He talks about the journey he went on from literary agent to self-publishing, and why he will continue publishing with AuthorHouse.

TRANSCRIPT:

I'm Bruce Kimmel, author of twelve AuthorHouse books.

I'm very much a creature of habit, and I loved the process of writing a book so much that I said, I think I'll do this once a year. I get up in the morning and I write, and you know, if I write five pages a day, I'm thrilled, and nobody is telling you what to do. You're on your own in your own head. And it's the most creative thing ever. And I've done a lot of creative things in my life but it is THE most fulfilling. So I give my first book to my agent, William Morris, and they sent it to their literary agent in New York, who liked the book but didn't think anybody would buy the book and therefore, refused to send it to any publishers. Ashraya Ananthanarayanan, a seventh-grade student in the Spring-Ford Area School District, is about to publish her second book, later this month. The 11-year-old’s latest book, titled “ARIA,” which means a melody of poems, is a collection of poems that all have a special meaning.

“There are 51 varieties of poems included in this book right from the simple haiku, elegy, free verse, limerick, ABC, acrostic, bio, burlesque to more complex types like the sonnet, Horatian ode, classicism, canzone, villanelle, carpe diem and several others,” Ashraya said. “Apart from the poems the book also has illustrations to go with the poems done by my classmate Tyler Edwards.”

In addition, Ashraya has included fun facts about each type of poem along with details of its origin in the book.

Ashraya said she felt the need to write the book after searching through the library and realizing that something was missing. Read more
