Author A.K pays a loving tribute to the sacrifices of his hard-working father in his new novel, "Face Off: July 13" (published by AuthorHouse).


Based on real events from the author's own life, "Face Off" tells the story of Ahmed, a mathematics and Arabic teacher from Somalia, and how he struggled to make a better life for himself and his family. After marrying Sara, he left his new wife and young family to find work in Saudi Arabia, where job prospects were much better.

Four years later, Ahmed returned home to meet the AK, the son he'd never met - Sara had been pregnant with AK, the couple's third child, when Ahmed left for Saudi Arabia. Unable to get a visa to return back to work in Saudi Arabia, "Face Off" goes on to recount how Ahmed devoted himself to supporting Sara and his children, first in war-torn Somalia, all the way to the United States.
Author A.K took inspiration from his relationship with his own father while writing "Face Off," describing his dad as someone "who taught me to be an upright human being with the greatest moral values as diamonds never lose their brightness." He goes on to say:

As a boy growing up in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas, I had no objective conception of evil. We were practicing Roman Catholics in our family, so our consideration of evil was focused on self: urges which could lead to sin—urges which themselves constituted sin. Evil was what lay in the barely hidden recesses of our personalities. There was no objective correlative of evil—the church taught we were evil embodied. Thus, we never regarded others as evil or even bad. What would have happened had we ever encountered anyone who was truly evil? Surely out there were people who couldn’t be justified or whose behavior couldn’t be rationalized away. What would happen when we met? Read more

In the end, Prescott ends up learning that losing it all can help recognize true dreams.

About the Author

This is his first book, and he is working on a sequel, “Deliverance and Double-cross.”

A world war looms upon civilization. This was spans 20 years to the time of an unjust dictator who controls most of the world. His son uses an unreliable technology of his own design to come back 20 years to our time and weave the tale of what is to come as a warning to the one person who can stop the coming crisis and the resulting war. The story spans both present time and theirs, as the conflict escalates in both timelines.

My father is a very important man in the future history and I seek to change that. He controls over half of the world in my time. At first, I was pleased with the prospect of inheriting such a powerful position. Then, I suppose in a manner of speaking it can be said that my father's spirit possessed me. I suddenly sought to conquer the conqueror. I have my own reasons for that, as you will know in time. I was not in the position, being his son, to lead a revolution as you may imagine, so instead I appealed to both his vanity and his loathing of me. I chose to battle him in something much more personal but no less decisive.

Richardson is careful to point out that, despite the presence within 
Chronos Unbound
of traditional science fiction elements, it offers something different. 
The setting is just a facilitator for the character story which requires extreme circumstances to see what people would do with the choices they are given.

About the Author
Theodor Richardson is an author and professor of computer science and information technology. He has written several textbooks on computing and security and writes regular reviews of scientific texts in Choice magazine. A lifelong student of literary works and theater, this is his first full-length novel, integrating science and the spectacular. When he is not adventuring around the world with his fiancée, Katherine, he resides in New Jersey, with his canine companions, Chewbacca and Monkey.

 I'm very much a creature of habit, and I loved the process of writing a book so much that I said, I think I'll do this once a year. I get up in the morning and I write, and you know, if I write five pages a day, I'm thrilled, and nobody is telling you what to do. You're on your own in your own head. And it's the most creative thing ever. And I've done a lot of creative things in my life but it is THE most fulfilling. So I give my first book to my agent, William Morris, and they sent it to their literary agent in New York, who liked the book but didn't think anybody would buy the book and therefore, refused to send it to any publishers. AuthorHouse Announces September Author Challenge Winner & Honorable Mentions

We had over 120 participants join our AuthorHouse September Author Challenge. There were so many great entries, it was extremely difficult to decide who had the best answer (in 50 words or less) to our question:

“What is the best thing about being a self-published author?”

The judges noticed some common themes running through the answers and so they divided them into categories. Many congratulations to our honourable mentions from each category. And here they are:

About the author:
I have always had an over active imagination with a desire to share these imaginative notions with a large audience. Writing has allowed me to be creative and come up with characters that I think others will enjoy as well as admire. I truly believe the creation of this character will capture the attention of the reader with page turning entertainment. Remi Robinson was born and raised in a small town in Georgia under the guidance and loving support of a single mother. While never experiencing life outside the small farming town, Remi went on to join the ranks of the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge. After completiing his obligations to the Army, Remi attended Georgia Southern University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Arts with an emphasis in Public Relations. Still searching for life’s rewards Remi graduated college and moved to Atlanta where he diligently served as a law enforcement officer in a county outside of Atlanta. He currently resides in McDonough, Georgia, a quaint town just outside of metropolitan Atlanta. Read more
